To start with, only 40% of the current Serb population lives in the north and they are heavily subsidized by Belgrade. Area is rich in mines but I doubt it could provide much employment if any profit-minded investor gets in. Otherwise north is destitute and barren with high distance and mountains between it and any significant economic center in Serbia. Even Serb moderate leaders admit that the area is hopeless if there is a division. <br /><br />Also, I highly doubt that Serbs will be able to maintain the cultural legacy and the remaining population if they take Trepca.
