Balkan books

Well, I decided to make a list of some of the books on the Balkans/Europe that I have acquired recently. So, the list is below, it is not in any order. For your information, The Case for Kosova was published very recently. Most of these are history books and/or they deal with the Balkans in general, the break up of Yugoslavia and the Kosovo war. Two are novels; one is none other than the Bridge on the Drina, by Andric. It is in English, and I hope to eventually read it in Serbian. Another novel is the File on H. by Kadare, this one in English as well. I hope to read the original in Albanian at some point, too. They both deal with important aspects of Balkan history. So, here it is:

Great book list. I'd be interested in seeing you do a short review of each one as you read through them. I'm always looking for good reads on the Balkans.

I do hope to post some reviews. Some of these are biased, and I will try to come up with a 'recommended' list of readings on the Balkans.
Have a great holiday season!

It's very difficult to write a book on the Balkans without bias. As I've been reading lately I've found it actually helpful to also read the biased ones to help inform me about what other think.

I'd include them whether they're good, not necessarily biased. Just note their bias as part of the recommendation.

Thanks for your work on this. It will be a great resource for the community.

You're absolutely right. Biased books are especially informative, if you read them from a critical stand. So, if I review a book which I think it is biased, I will try to point out its biases.
Thanks for the encouragement and good luck!

Pretty extensive collection of books.

One cant really go wrong soaking in all of the information and views in these. As you point out some are biased one way or the other but that needent be a problem in a critical mind.

Best!
